INFLUENCE OF JOB DESIGN ON JOB PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN DELTA STATE

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the influence of job design on job performance of business educators in Colleges of Education in Delta State. Three research questions were raised to guide the study, while three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance.The study adopted a correlational survey design. The population of the study comprised 111 business educators in colleges of education in Delta State. The entire population was used as sample for the study. The instrument used for data collection for this study was a questionnaire titled “Job design assessment questionnaire”. The content and face validity of the instrument was carried out by two experts in Business Education Unit, Department of Vocational and Technical Education, and one expert in Measurement and Evaluation Unit, Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The Cronbach alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded 0.89 r value. The data collected were analyzed using Pearson product moment correlation statistics. The results of the study indicated that job rotation and job enrichment contribute positively in enhancing the performance of business educators in Delta State. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others that Job rotation should be encouraged among business educators and jobs should be designed in line with the current technological trends.
